light attenuation in a W - year - old loblolly pine stand as influenced by fertilization and irrigation

چکیده
We examined empirical and simulated’ estimates of canopy light attenuation at SETRES (Southeast Tree Research and Education Site). a 2x2 factorial study of water and nutrients. Fertilized plots had signiticantly lower under-canopy PAR transmittance (T,) when compared to non-fertilized plots. Light interception efftciency. as measured by the canopy cosine-corrected light extinction coefficient. G. was significantly lower in irrigated plots for all dates examined. Estimates of G ranged from a low of 0.36 in irrigated plots in September to a high of 0.64 in March for control plots. Study-wide analyses indicate that a G of 0.50 and a k (uncorrected light extinction coefficient) of 0.69 may be reasonable pammeter estimates of canopy light extinction in intermediate-aged lohlolly pine plantations across a range of stand condittons and seasons when site-specific data are unavailable. Irrigation and fertilization effects on foliar and soil carbon and nitrogen isotope ratios in a loblolly pine stand
We examined 6I3C and 6 " ~ in needle (current and 1-year-old) and soil samples collected on two occasions (July and September 1999) from a 15-year-old loblolly pine (Pinus taeda L.) stand in an irrigation and fertilization experiment to investigate whether these treatments leave specific isotope signals in the samples and thus to infer the effects of treatments on C and N cycling. Irrespective ...
متن کاملStand-level allometry in Pinus taeda as affected by irrigation and fertilization.
Changing environmental conditions have the potential to alter allometric relationships between plant parts, possibly leading to ecosystem-level feedbacks. We quantified allometric shifts in field-grown loblolly pine (Pinus taeda L.) in response to altered resource availability based on data from multiple harvests to correct for size-related changes in biomass partitioning. A replicated factoria...

The goal of the study was to explore hydraulic traits in a 4-year-old loblolly pine (Pinus taeda L.) plantation to better understand plasticity of this species to resource availability. The influence of a factorial combination of irrigation (130 mm year 1 versus 494 mm year ) and fertilization (0 kg N ha 1 year 1 versus 80 kg N ha 1 year ) on stand-level transpiration, canopy stomatal conductan...
متن کاملProduction, allocation, and stemwood growth efficiency of Pinus taeda L. stands in response to 6 years of intensive management
Loblolly pine (Pinus taeda L.) is a highly plastic species with respect to growth responses to forest management. Loblolly pine is the most planted species across the southern United States, a region with the most expansive and intensively managed forest plantations in the world. Management intensity, using tools such as site preparation and fertilization, is increasing greatly in scope over ti...
متن کاملLeaf Area and Above- and Belowground Growth Responses of Loblolly Pine to Nutrient and Water Additions
A 2 x 2 nutrient and water factorial experiment with four replications was installed in an 8-yr-old stand of Ioblolly pine (Pinus taeda L.) growing on an infertile, excessively drained sandy site in Scotland County, North Carolina. After the fourth year of treatment, estimated stem volume increment, total biomass production, and peak leaf area index (LAI) increased 152%, 99%, and 101%, respecti...
